It was indeed a moment of great relief and joy for the abandoned baby and some indigent parents at the Alex Ekuweme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, AE-FUTHA, when their medical bills were settled by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, (ICAN).
ICAN, Ebonyi State, were seen moving from different units of the hospital, including Newborn Special Care Unit, Paediatric and Postnatal Wards and Children Emergency room to identify and clear the bills of indigent patients.
Those assisted in the payment of their medical bills were six in number, including that of an abandoned baby in the hospital.
Addressing newsmen after the exercise, the ICAN Eastern Zonal Chairman and Chairman, Abakaliki and District Society, Mrs. Ijeoma Chima Okikechi who expressed sympathy for those unable to pay their bills while in the hospital restated the commitment of ICAN towards delivering humanitarian services to all and sundry.
She advised well meaning Nigerians to assist indigent patients to clear their medical bills as such will not only give the payee joy but also attract God's special blessings towards ones life.
"We normally carry out activities every year but we decided to visit the hospital to pay the bills of indigent patients. The bill of an abandoned child is from Ohaukwu was also paid for. If anybody wants to be happy, the person needs to come to the hospital to spend money."
Reacting the development, the Chief Medical Director of AE-FUTHA, Dr. Emeka Onwe Ogah who appreciated ICAN for their demonstration of love, prayed for more of God's provision towards the Institute.
