Barely hours after the official declaration by former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, the Ogun State chapter of the Obedient Movement has entered into a strategic alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following what both parties described as robust and fruitful engagements.
The alliance was finalised at a closed-door meeting in Abeokuta, where leaders of the Obedient Movement, led by the State Coordinator, Hon. Olubowale Obaloluwa, met with ADC leaders from the state and the South-West zone.
The ADC delegation included the South-West Zonal Chairman, Hon. Eyiowuawi; the Ogun State Chairman, Otunba Dr. Olufemi Soluade; the State Secretary, Hon. Olusoji; and Dr. Tunde Soaga, among other party officials.
Speaking after the meeting, Dr. Soluade described the engagement as far more than a ceremonial interaction.
“Today is not just about formalities; it is a strategic session,” he said. “We had in-depth discussions on structure, philosophy, and the roadmap to 2027. The speed, clarity, and organisation with which the Obedient Movement has acted are remarkable. This is not a simple integration of members; it is a convergence of shared missions.”
Also speaking, the South-West Zonal Chairman of the ADC, Hon. Eyiowuawi, said the alliance demonstrated a disciplined and deliberate approach to political consolidation.
“The Obedient Movement waited for clear direction from their principal and then acted decisively. What we have built here is a foundation of trust, backed by a clear operational framework for the future,” he noted.
On behalf of the Obedient Movement, Hon. Obaloluwa Arewa said discussions focused on grassroots mobilisation, party structure, and the principles guiding candidate selection.
“We are united by a commitment to promote individuals of proven capacity, competence, and character. This alliance is action-oriented, and Ogun State is prepared to lead by example,” he said.
The State Secretary of the Obedient Movement, Kareem Owolabi, added that the partnership would help channel supporters’ energy into meaningful political outcomes.
“This is a partnership of equals, driven by results rather than symbolism,” he stated.
Other delegates, including Coach Fagbemi and Comrade Unique Adebayo, highlighted the importance of data-driven campaigns, community engagement, voter education, and large-scale mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with a strong focus on supporting Peter Obi and credible ADC candidates.
Political analysts say the swift alliance could significantly reshape Ogun State’s political landscape, blending the ADC’s party structure with the Obedient Movement’s vibrant grassroots and youth-driven network as preparations for the 2027 polls gather momentum.
