NCoS arrests two for attempted drug smuggling to inmates






Operatives of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command said it has arrested no fewer than two suspects, Usman Khalid and Bello Musa Ahmed, for attempting to smuggle illicit drugs and Indian hemp to inmates at the Nomansland Court Complex, Kano.

Confirming the development, the Command's spokesperson, Musbahu Lawan said the duo were arrested by it personnel attached to the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Goron Dutse, Kano while trying to throw illicit substances to inmates taking to the court for trial.

Lawan who declared zero stance for drug-related activities within custodial facilities and court premises in Kano State, however, warned members of the public against intermingling with inmates, especially during their transportation to the court for trial.

According to him, "The suspects were apprehended by NCoS officers attached to the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Goron Dutse, Kano, while trying to throw Indian hemp and other illicit substances to inmates at the court premises.

"The Command warns the public against intermingling with inmates, especially during transportation to and from court, as it poses a serious security breach and is punishable by law. 


The NCoS is committed to rehabilitating and reforming inmates, and will not tolerate attempts to undermine this mandate.

"The Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ado Inuwa, has directed the Legal Unit and Intelligence Unit to hand over the suspects and substances to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for investigation and prosecution.

"The Command reiterates its commitment to maintaining maximum security and zero tolerance for drug-related activities within custodial facilities and court premises in Kano State. 


The public is urged to cooperate with security agencies to sustain law and order," the command's spokesperson, Lawan however stated.
