Ogun Agro-Cargo Airport: Don’t distract Abiodun, NAOSS tells Daniel

By Demilade Michael

The National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) has called on the former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Gbenga Daniel, to desist from distracting the incumbent governor, Dapo Abiodun, by whipping up unnecessary sentiments through press interviews.

NAOSS in a statement signed by its National President, Kehinde Thomas, and made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, argued that Daniel who is now a serving senator should not blame the media for underreporting the achievements of his administration in the state, rather, he should blame himself for engaging in needless political wars while in office.

Senator Daniel had lamented in an interview that his administration suffered a media blackout which led to poor reportage of his government's achievements.

He was also reported to have said that the foundation of most of the projects, especially the Agro-Cargo Airport, embarked upon by the incumbent administration of Governor Abiodun, were laid by his government between 2003 and 2011.

But reacting to the outburst of the Senator Daniel, NAOSS, said the former governor should rather commend Governor Abiodun for building the airport which was left in limbo for over a decade before 2019.

The students' body described the statement attributed to Daniel that the incumbent governor was taking accolades for the project initiated by his administration as not only "a distraction for a performing governor, but finding flimsy excuses for failure of his administration to deliver a project several millions of naira were sunk into".

Thomas said that the former governor by now, should realize that Governor Abiodun-led administration in the state is not paying a lip service to espousing good governance in the state, but walking his talk on making Ogun number one destination for investors in Nigeria and beyond, with the construction of the airport with the longest runway in the country.

He noted that unlike Senator Daniel's years in the saddle which were characterized by the promotion of thuggery, cultism and political intolerance, Governor Abiodun has espoused political inclusiveness, tolerance, fairness, equity, justice and even distribution of projects across the three senatorial districts in the state.

NAOSS National President, however, urged the former governor to wake up from his political slumber and give credit to the incumbent governor for his show of tolerance to past governors in the state.

According to him, "Governor Abiodun has demonstrated better political maturity by breaking the cycle of political intolerance and harsh treatment exhibited by Senator Daniel towards his predecessor in office and the eight years of humiliation he equally suffered in the hands of his successor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun".

"Ogun State people are yet to forget the harsh treatment Daniel meted out to his predecessor in office, Aremo Olusegun Osoba. The eight years of political humiliation slammed on Daniel by his successor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, is also fresh in the memory of the people.

"Our people are not fools and they cannot be hoodwinked by the political marriage of inconvenience between the hitherto political foes, all to distract the administration of Governor Abiodun. The people of the Gateway State know better not to trust the duo of Daniel and Amosun no matter their antics, but, to support the governor who has lowered the political temperature in Ogun, even in the face of stark provocation". Thomas submitted.
