The Alumni Association of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, in collaboration with Bishop and Rev. Dr. (Mrs.) Felix Owolabi foundation had gifted no fewer than 100 indigent students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) scholarship award.
The annual scholarship award, which was the third series, was held at the PG hall of the institution.
Speaking at the programme, the founder, Faith Triumph Ministry, Osogbo, Bishop Felix Owolabi, said the gesture was to assist the indigent students to achieve their education dream.
He therefore challenged those who benefited from the award to be focused academically, stressing that they should not allow their present situation form barrier between them and their future dreams.
He urged students of FUNAAB to challenge themselves to be "solution providers to people's needs and commodity that people will long for".
He said, "graduates of Universities of Agriculture were trained to feed the nation. You don't need to write 'I beg to apply '. You have to be innovative. Challenge yourselves on how to be job providers and employers of labour".
While lamenting the problem of food insecurity in Nigeria, Bishop Owolabi attributed this to reliance on obsolete farm implement by Nigerian farmers, calling on government at the federal and state levels to go into mechanized farming.
On her part, Rev. Dr. (Mrs) Owolabi, called on well-to-do Nigerians to be their brothers' keepers, saying that they should not wait until they have millions in their bank accounts before they reach out to the needy, positing that the little they may give will go a long way in wiping the tears of the needy.
On his part, the FUNAAB Vice Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, said the scholarship was a marching order for the beneficiaries to rededicate themselves to their education.
He said, "to whom much is given, much is expected. Therefore, this scholarship is a marching order to rededicate yourselves to your education.
"Don't allow your present situation; your inability to afford certain things now limit you in your education and dream of life. Any challenges you are facing now, are ways of preparing you for the future success.
In his welcome address, the Global President of FUNAAB Alumni Association, Dr. Olusegun Ogundiran told the beneficiaries that they should not spend the money to buy clothes, wrist watches, or phones, but they should use it for the purpose it was meant for; which is educational development.
