Alia sacks Gboko, Ukum, Katsina-Ala LGs Caretaker Chairmen

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue state has sacked the Caretaker Chairmen of Gboko, Ukum and Katsina-Ala Local Government Areas, LGAs, of the state.

The affected Council Chairmen, according to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rafael Akume, were relieved of their appointment for alleged "gross misconduct, embezzlement of local government revenue and indulging in unwholesome activities."

The statement noted that the sack of the Chairmen followed a correspondence to the State House of Assembly by Governor Hyacinth Alia seeking their replacement with new appointees.

The correspondence had requested for the sacked Chairmen to immediately hand over to their deputies while express attention be accorded the appointment of the new chairmen.

Those fired included Pastor Gideon Haanongon of Ukum LGA, Abraham Agber of Gboko LGA and Francis Zazan of Katsina-Ala LGA.

Those appointed in their place were Verlumun Avar for Gboko LGA, Victor Iorzaa for Ukum LGA and Justin Shaku who takes over as Katsina-Ala LG Chairman.

The House had gone ahead to approve the names of the new appointees after the Speaker, Mr. Hyacinth Dajoh put up their names for approval on the floor of the House.

Recall that the fired Ukum Chairman alongside his Personal Assistant, Driver and Police Orderly were January 13 waylaid and abducted by armed men but regained their freedom after about two weeks in captivity.
