9 perish, 7 Injured on Lagos-Abeokuta expressway accident






No fewer than nine persons were confirmed dead while seven others sustained injuries in an accident involving a truck and a Mazda bus at Kere bridge on Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.


The Spokesperson, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State,
Mrs Florence Okpe, confirmed the accident to newsmen in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

Okpe explained that the incident occurred at 8:00am, saying it was caused by excessive speed, route violation which led to head on collision between the truck without registration number and the bus marked SMK 808 YD.

She explained that a total of 17 persons were involved, in the accident, which comprised of seven men, nine women and one female child.

"A total of seven persons were injured which comprises of five women, one man and one female child.

"Unfortunately, nine persons were recorded death from the crash which comprises five men and four women," she said 

The FRSC spokesperson stated that the injured victims were taken to General Hospital , Ijaye, while the deceased were deposited at same hospital in Abeokuta.

She noted that the Sector Commander , Anthony Uga, cautioned motorist on route violation and excessive speed, pointing out the dangers associated with the two critical offences. 

He further advised motorist to always adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
