Akume remains my leader - Gov. Alia

The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia at the weekend said there was no rift between him and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume.

The Governor who made the clarification when he hosted media practitioners and Chief Executives of Media organisations in the state in Makurdi said people were trying to create or paint a picture of crisis between him and the All Progressives Congress, APC, leader where there was non.

He assured that the SGF would continue to be his leaders despite efforts by saboteurs to paint a picture of a crisis between them in order to cash in on it.

The Governor said: "For the records, I want to state that I do not have any crisis with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume.

"He is my leader, he is an All Progressives Congress, APC, leader; and I respect that one hundred percent.

"What you have behind this matter is that when people make or present their perception of a crisis, they cash in on it. So when there is no crisis, they want crisis to be created because they are starved.

"So, as far as I am concerned, saboteurs will continue to starve because there is no crisis and there will not be crisis."

The Governor said the state had plans to organise a reception to welcome home the SGF who he said is an illustrious son of the state, assuring that the special reception by the people of the state will hold soon.

According to the Governor, the people of the state should be celebrating for the emergence of an SGF from the state "rather than making insinuations where crisis does not exist."

He urged Benue people to rally round his government and give him the necessary support to help him deliver on his promises.

He said his doors remains open and he would continue to be accessible to the people assuring that all actions taken by is government were in the best interest of the state.

While also urging  politicians to join hands with him to serve the state, Governor Alia appealed to journalists to support him saying "we certainly cannot weather the storm alone without the support of the media."
