Suspected gunmen attack commercial vehicle in Ekiti, injure 3 kidnap others







Gunmen on Monday night attacked and abducted a commercial driver, alongside his passengers.

The incident which occured at about 5:30 pm along Iju/Itaogbolu/Ikere-Ekiti road, in Ikere local government area of Ekiti State.
 
It was gathered that the commercial vehicle, a Nissan Primera, loaded with  passengers was heading to Akure from Ado-Ekiti, when it attacked by the gun wielding kidnappers, injuring some passangers on board  and whisking away some to an unknown destination.

The source said the gunmen numbering about five,  armed with gun and other dangerous weapons started shooting sporadically on sighting the vehicle, making it to ram into a dish.

The source said the injured passengers who are currently admitted in a private health facility in Ikere-Ekiti, were predominantly government workers coming from Ado-Ekiti to Akure.

Recounting his ordeal, one of the survivors who claimed to be a civil servant, said he escaped from the scene with gunshot, said he boarded the vehicle from Ado-Ekiti to Akure at about 4:30pm on the fateful day.

He explained that they were attacked by the gun wielding kidnappers at a damaged portion of the road between Ikere-Ekiti and Iju in Ondo State.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ekiti State Command Mr Sunday Abutu, confirmed the situation but said that he has not been properly briefed by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area.

Similarly, the Commandant of the Amatekun Corps in Ekiti State, Brigadier Joe Komalafe, said his men and other sister security agencies in the state are currently combing the bush in the area, he promised that the victims will be rescued without harm.
