SON destroys substandard products worth over N10m in Kano






The Standard Organization of Nigeria, SON has destroyed substandard products worth over N10 million seized by the Agency in Kano State.

The destruction of the substandard products took place at Kalibawa village in Dawakin-Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.

Speaking during the destruction exercise, the Agency's Director General, Faruk Salim said the destroyed items includes sugar, flour, Brake fluids, toothpaste, red stone gum, 4Litre empty gallons among others.

The Director General represented by an Assistant Director, Jibrin Mohammad, said SON followed due process before the destruction as enshrined in the Act of the Agency.

He however appealed to the general public to assist it with necessary and needed information in order to arrest issues arising from substandard products finding it way into the country.

According to him, "society is the watchdogs of the agency, hence they should not relent in reporting any suspicious move regarding substandard products to the agency, to address the menace of circulation of substandard products.

"We appealed to the general public to accord all needed support to the agency, geared toward achieving the set objectives," the Director General, Salim however appealed.

Meanwhile, the destruction exercise was witnessed by sister agencies, National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Police, NESREA among other stakeholders.
