A former National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and All Progressives Congress, APC, stalwart, Senator Barnabas Gemade has been suspended by the APC for alleged anti party activities.
Also suspended by the party is a one time House of Representatives member and governorship aspirant on the platform of the party, Prof. Terhemba Shija.
The duo contested and lost in the last governorship primary election of the party after which they dragged the matter to court and also lost.
The suspension of the duo was ratified by the Expanded State Executive meeting of the party held Wednesday in Makurdi.
At the meeting, the State Chairman of APC, Mr. Austin Agada lampooned the duo for the manner they worked against the success of the party during the just concluded elections.
Mr. Agada alleged that the duo worked against the party in connivance with the Peoples Democratic Part, PDP to pull down the party.
He said "Chief Barnabas Gemade vehemently refused to go with the Constitution of the party. That he lost his ward and the entire Konshisha Local Government Area is most appalling.
"Prof. Shija on his part frustrated the party and worked in connivance with the PDP."
He thereafter put to the Congress the question on whether or not Chief Gemade and Prof. Shija be suspended, and the response was an affirmation.
The APC chairman therefore declared that, "Gemade and Shija are suspended and thereby, referred to the party's fact-finding committee to advance reasons why they should not be expelled from the party."
The meeting which was presided over by Mr. Agada had in attendance, all-State Executive Committee members of the party, all party Chairmen at the local government levels and the 276 Ward Chairmen of the party.
Reacting, Prof. Shija said, "no body notified me that I have committed an offence or ordered me to appear before a committee.
"But frankly I think that everything that is happening is a function of poverty.
When you have a poverty stricken environment, where very few people are in charge they feel scared when other people are coming in.
"And this same victims of poverty are the ones orchestrating this; that somebody will also be considered for a position and that will not be too good for them. That is why you hear all those things because even if they said I have committed an offence the only civilised thing yo do is to confront me with the offence and let me defend myself. You did not do that you went through the back door because there is an exco that has been put in place from whatever source and anything can go. I will wait till I see a statement them I will know how to respond."
