BREAKING: Court declares Katsina PDP newly constituted Caretaker Committee illegal

By Editor

The Katsina State High Court has sacked the newly constituted Caretaker Committee of the Katsina State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The State Chief Judge, Justice MD Abubakar, who presided over the matter granted an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the 1st defendant/respondent, the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr. Abdulrahman Usman (including all its members) from running the affairs of Katsina PDP pending the hearing and determination of the instant suit brought before the state High Court.

In the same vein, the State High Court also restrained the 2nd and 3rd defendants, PDP and INEC from recognising the 1st defendant, Dr Abdulrahaman Usman or any member of the purported Caretaker Committee constituted by the 2nd defendant (PDP) in running the affairs of the Katsina State PDP Chapter pending the determination of the suit.

Uli, the Acting Chairman of the Party disclosed this at a press briefing on Wednesday where he presented a copy of the court order to newsmen.

Recall that the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) appointed the caretaker committee after it dissolved the Katsina State Executive Committee on 23 March 2023.

Unsatisfied with the NWC decision, the embattled Acting Chairman, Salisu Uli and nine others, filed a suit at the Katsina State High Court challenging the formation of the said Caretaker Committee. The suit was accompanied with a motion seeking for an order restraining the 1st Defendant/Respondent (Dr Abdurrahman Usman and Others) from parading themselves as the Caretaker Committee of the Katsina PDP.

Uli while briefing the press noted that: "with the judgement and court order, all the organs of the party which includes the 6,137 ward executives, 612 local government executives and 39 state executives, making a total of 6,788 officials of the party would continue to carry out their statutory functions in line with the constitution of the party and the laws of the land."

Consequently, Uli assured all party executives, stalwarts and the general public that they remain law abiding citizens and would continue to remain so in the course of steering the affairs of the party through reconciliatory path to glory and greatness once again.

He also promised to carry all party members along, even as he assured that they will cooperate fully with the national headquarters in discharging their duties in line with the constitution.

The Katsina PDP in the last seven months have been engaged in the battle of supremacy after the NWC sacked the duly and constitutionally elected ward, local government and state executive committees of the party in the state.
