2023: Sogunle promises to 'rescue' Ogun from APC, as he clinches LP guber ticket

Former Commissioner for Finance in Ogun State, Kehinde Sogunle on Thursday emerged as the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the state.

Sogunle won the governorship primary held at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Secretariat Abeokuta, through affirmative votes from the 100 accredited delegates.

In his acceptance speech, Sogunle reiterated his desire to rescue the state from the shackles of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Democracy has been turned into a government of a few, by a few for a few. This is not what we fought for and bargained for pre-1999.

“The need for a third force, a genuine party of the people, a credible alternative with credible people has become critically imperative.

“We will run a political model canvas that delivers an exciting value proposition and experience, that will catalyse a ballot revolution, that shows that the power is still with the people and that the citizen occupies the highest office in the land and not a few greedy, insensitive, and incompetent ones.

“We want to make Ogun state proud again and a model for how things can change for the good of all in Nigeria. We have done it before, we can do it again. Ogun state shall rise! These are times when we need the best of men and women.

“We call on all noble Ogun people in the country and in the diaspora to join us in this mission as we believe that the best of us should serve the rest of us,” he said.

Declaring Sogunle the flagbearer of the party, the Chairman of the election planning committee, Comrade Oluwole Sokunbi said, “By the power conferred on me as the chairman of the planning committee, I hereby declare Hon. Kehinde Anthony Sogunle as the winner of the election through affirmation by the 100 delegates here as the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate of Ogun state”.

Sogunle in his speech however announced Dr. Aishat Lawal Keshinro, a former Permanent Secretary, as his running mate.
