The Ota-Awori extraction of Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency in Ogun State has called for fairness and justice in the rotation of the House of Representatives seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The call was made on Thursday in Ota through a communiqué issued at the end of an enlarged meeting of the Ota-Awori Youth Movement, comprising the Ota Youth Assembly, Ota Traditional Youth Council and other groups.
Reading the communiqué to journalists, Chief Ojogbon Edet Ansa and the President of the Ota Youth Assembly, Prince Ojugbele Adeniji, lamented that despite the strategic economic importance of Ota-Awori and its influence on electoral outcomes in the state, the area has not been fairly represented at the federal level.
They explained that the Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency is made up of Ota State Constituency I (Ota-Awori) and Ado/Igbesa State Constituency, stressing that the current member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tunji Akinosi, is from Ado/Igbesa, just like his immediate predecessor, Jimoh Ojugbele.
According to them, Ojugbele succeeded Hon. Babatunde Ogunola, also from Ado/Igbesa, noting that the last time an indigene of Ota-Awori represented the constituency in the House of Representatives was between 2007 and 2011.
The group appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both state and national levels to address what they described as political injustice against Ota-Awori in the allocation of the federal constituency seat.
“We demand fairness in the rotation of the House of Representatives seat, with the Ota axis taking its rightful turn in 2027. We urge the leadership and influential stakeholders to respect the unwritten principle of rotation and ensure equitable representation for Ota,” the communiqué read in part.
They warned that if their “legitimate and reasonable demands” are ignored, Awori youths may be forced to mobilise and support any political party that aligns with their collective interests and aspirations, regardless of political affiliation.
Also speaking, the Oluomo of Ota, Chief Ola Bello, echoed the position of the Ota-Awori Youth Movement, urging President Tinubu, Governor Abiodun and other relevant stakeholders to address the perceived injustice as the 2027 general elections draw nearer.
