The Tunwase family members of the late business mogul and founder of First City Monument Bank, Otunba Subomi Balogun led by their Olori Ebi, Mr R O Shonibare have pledged their unalloyed loyalty and support to Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi as the head (Olori Ebi) of the Fusengbuwa ruling house.
Mr Shonibare while speaking during the visit of the Tunwase family members to the country home of Otunba Owoyemi at Idowa on Friday explained that the essence of the courtesy call was to make it clear that the former National President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria remains the indisputable head of the family and should therefore be supported by all at home and in diaspora.
He stated that "Someone, somewhere might be doing whatever pleases him but the truth is that Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi is the head of Fusengbuwa ruling house and we are here to affirm our loyalty and support to his leadership even as the race to pick the next Awujale hots up".
Mr Shonibare said that a lot might have happened in the past but a new beginning is in the horizon and that every member of the Fusengbuwa ruling house should remain one united family and work together for the emergence of new Awujale that will further take Ijebu land to greater height.
Prof Lasun Gbadamosi of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye who was also part of the entourage also said that Tunwase family has agreed to be under the leadership of Otunba Owoyemi for the betterment of the entire ruling house and greatness of Ijebu land
Speaking while playing host to the Tunwase family at his Idowa country home in Odogbolu Local Government area of Ogun State, Owoyemi lauded the family for coming around to accept his leadership as the indisputable head of the Fusengbuwa ruling house.
The former ICAN President described Tunwase family as very invaluable part of the ruling house that had in the past produced Awujale for three consecutive times.
He pledged to ensure that Tunwase family is given their due place of pride in whatever they do, especially as it relates to selection of the new Awujale.
The former ICAN President said that "Tunwase family is a very important unit in Fusengbuwa ruling house. We can't push them over because this is a family that had in the past produced three Awujales including Oba Adenuga Folagbade, so it is a thing of joy that they have come to accept my leadership as the head of the Fusengbuwa ruling house.
"They have pleaded that we should ensure that they are carried along and given their due place of pride in whatever we do in Fusengbuwa ruling house and that is what we are going to do.
"I am really glad to welcome them and I am assuring them of my upright leadership and the commitment to produce the best ever Awujale in the history of Ijebu and Yoruba land as a whole"
The former ICAN President also used the medium to clear the air over the setting up of screening committee for the selection of the new Awujale saying that the Fusengbuwa ruling house is still doing a lot of behind-the-scenes work to set up a screening committee that will be equal to the task ahead.
Owoyemi explained that "We heard that some people somewhere said they are setting up screening committee for selection of Awujale, they can do whatever they like but the Fusengbuwa ruling house is yet to do anything in that regard.
"We are yet to design the screening forms for the aspirants to fill, we have not agreed on whatever those who wish to apply will pay because we couldn't make it free or else we may have up to thousands of aspirants and if that happens, how do we do the screening?
"And yet we are not going to sell the Awujale throne, no way, that won't happen.. if we sell the throne, how are we going to be able to face such Kabiyesi if he's doing what is not right?.....it is just going to be like what we have in the political space when those seeking for people's votes would have spent so much and by the time they get to the position and they are misbehaving nobody will be able to challenge them because they would believe that they bought their way to the that office.....
"So may be we shall say that each family unit should send specific numbers of aspirants or, we shall throw it open, or that the family will all together sit and agree on the numbers of aspirants to jointly present, we really don't know, so a lot of work is going on to ensure that only the best candidate emerged in a most transparent and acceptable way".
As much as the ruling house is ready to put in so much work and integrity towards the selection of the new Awujale, the renowned Accountant said that all of these would amounted to nothing without the readiness of the state government and the kingmakers to also be on the same page with the ruling house.
He added that "It is against this background that we are also using the medium to beg the kingmakers and our Governor, Dapo Abiodun that when we get to that area of selection process, only the best is good for us, the prophecy is that the incoming Awujale will be much greater than the one before him but this will only be if we are all of the same mindset".
Owoyemi has equally called on the aspirants to the throne of Awujale to rather trust God for their selection and not make it a do-or-die affairs and begin to get themselves in vodoo or visiting spiritualists, Pastors, Alfas, babalawo, native doctors just because they want to be Awujale at all costs.
He said "Let me also use this medium to urge the aspirants to the throne of Awujale not go and be visiting spiritualist, Babalawo, native doctors, Alfas or Pastors or resorting to all manner of diabolical ways all because they want to be Awujale at all costs....t
"The throne is always about God, let none of them be running from pillar to pole, let the aspirants trust God for everything.. The late Awujale once told us that to be made a king is divine, that such people are always with their crown which they came with from heaven and it is such that wherever such a person may be, he will be located when the time comes.
"I urge all the aspirants to always pray that the will of the Almighty God alone be done because he's the only one who enthrone kings".
