14 die in car race crash on Third Mainland bridge

No fewer than 14 persons lost their lives  in a ghastly auto crash on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.

Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred on Sunday night when a group of young men, said to be returning from a show on the Island, engaged in a reckless car race on the bridge, turning the busy expressway into what looked like a Formula 1 track.

According to accounts, their high-speed display ended in disaster as several vehicles collided, leading to multiple fatalities and leaving others with severe injuries.

“The way they were driving was like a race track. Suddenly, one lost control, and everything scattered. We just started seeing cars somersaulting,” an eyewitness recounted.

Videos of the incident circulating online show mangled vehicles littering the bridge, as sympathisers gathered to assist the victims before emergency responders arrived.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other first responders were seen evacuating the injured and clearing the wreckage to restore traffic flow.

Eyewitnesses insisted that more than 14 lives were lost in the tragic crash.
