President Donald Trump has signed an executive order initiating “Project Homecoming,” a program designed to encourage undocumented immigrants to voluntarily leave the United States.
The initiative offers government-funded flights and a $1,000 stipend to individuals who choose to depart the country on their own accord.
In a video posted on his instagram page on Friday, the program allows eligible migrants to book one-way flights to any foreign country, excluding the U.S., through a newly developed CBP Home mobile application.
This app also facilitates the distribution of the travel stipend and provides assistance with travel arrangements.
According to the video, he said “the president said: “Today I signed an executive order to launch the first ever self-deportation program for illegal aliens. We are making it as easy as possible for illegal aliens to leave America. Any illegal alien can simply show up at an airport and receive a free flight out of our country.
“The announcement is part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to push mass deportations through voluntary departures.
“The CBP Home app, allows migrants to book a free flight to any foreign country; As long as it's not here, you can go anywhere you want.”
The administration asserts that this initiative will reduce deportation costs by up to 70 percent and alleviate the burden on immigration enforcement agencies.
Additionally, the program includes concierge services to assist with travel logistics and aims to streamline the departure process for participants.
