Defect with me or resign, Gov Eno tells appointees

Governor Umo Eno has told all Akwa Ibom State cabinet members and all other under his administration to align with him or resign when he defects from the Peoples Democratic Party to submit his political structure and support to President Bola Tinubu and Senate Resident, Godswill Akpabio.

The governor gave the matching order at the monthly two-day Projects Delivery and Performance Review Meeting held at the Government House, Uyo.

The development comes as an Akwa Ibom All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Mr Iniobong John, hinted that the governor was headed to the APC sooner or later.

The Crest, a provincial news medium which first made public the fallout of the Thursday meeting quoted Governor Eno as charging his cabinet, “Anybody who claims he is not aware of my intention to leave PDP is still living in 18th century.

“Apart from elected officials like House of Assembly members and Local Government Chairmen, I have nothing to negotiate with you. Anybody who believes when I leave PDP he will use the party structure to fight me is lying because I will still control the PDP structure.”

Playing down the riot act by the governor, the State Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, stated that Governor Eno had no intention of destroying the structure of the PDP or any other political party in the State.

Umanah also explained that the Governor’s comments on political alignment of members of his Exco were standard expectations for appointees who serve at the pleasure of the Governor.

“We stand by our official statement of May 21, 2025, and urge the public to disregard the fabrications in the said report."

He further claimed that, “At no point did the Governor state or suggest that the State receives N200 billion monthly. He only cautioned against misleading headlines such as one claiming the State received N650 billion which could falsely imply a monthly revenue of N200 billion, an impossible and inaccurate figure.”

On the governor's imminent defection, John, Director, APC Media Network, Akwa Ibom, said, "It is no longer a rumour. There are some confirmations that the governor is defecting to APC.

"Though unofficial, I can confirm that the governor is defecting to our party sooner or later, no official date has been confirmed yet, but all plans have been perfected for his defection to our party".
