Former Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Senator James Manager, Wednesday, advanced reasons why Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other leaders of the party in the State, resolved to join the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Manager, who addressed newsmen shortly after a stakeholders meeting of the party at Government House, Asaba, described the PDP as a party that is in trouble, describing it as a boat that is already capsizing.
The pioneer Chairman of the PDP in the State said the meeting was the climax of consultations by leaders of the party on the way forward.
He said: "Consultations have been going on for some time now and the climax of those consultation is what you are seeing now here in Government House in Asaba.
"We have discussed, we have disagreed to to agree on the way forward and it is always unanimous because of the happenings in the body politics of PDP.
"I am the pioneer Chairman of the PDP and of course you will know how l feel, but then you cannot be in a boat that is already capsizing.
"Looking at the issues, the way they are, we have come to the inevitable conclusion to do something else. You are seeing the mammoth crowd; it is not a sole decision, it was collective."
Manager added: "Few days ago, there was a resolution taken by the PDP Governors forum at Ibadan. Almost all the Governor were there and they resolved that they are not going into any merger with any political party or political association.
"As disadvantaged as the PDP is with 11, 12 governors, how do you go into a national election and you think you can win with an incumbent president at the top? That particular resolution has killed the spirit of so many PDP members.
"How did we lose election in 2015? It was because political parties came together including those splinter group from PDP came together and were able to wrestle wrestle power from PDP at that time.
"Of course, there are deeper reasons, the bigger issues that are there Today, Senator Anyanwu is the National Secretary of the party and in another day, you will hear the man that was chosen from the South East before the Supreme Court decision is the man that the party has chosen as National Secretary of the party.
"The same Ibadan meeting resolved that the Deputy National Secretary will be acting as National Secretary for now.
"Party is not just a mere political group; party must be positioned to go into a contest and win.
"The National Secretary of a party signs all the documents going to INEC; all the external and internal documents with the National Chairman.
"Who is going to sign the documents of the PDP and if the documents are rejected, what do you do? You see, it is becoming very funny and you see people saying different things at different times; sometimes it is the thing but in different ways.
" The PDP has never gotten this kind of trouble before. PDP is in trouble, truly. Yes we have 11, 12 governors, but l don't think it is good enough for the PDP family in Delta State to continue to be inside that boat. That is what we have resolved; that is what we have decided."
