Soludo, Ohaneze youths disagree on Kanu's release

The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, has knocked Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State over his recent remarks that the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Mazi Nnamdi Kanu would not end insecurity in the South East. 

Ohaneze Youths Council urged President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to disregard the Governor's comment which according to the youth body, is not a reflection of the truth and general belief of Ndigbo.

The youth organization further urged the President to fulfill his campaign promise and pact his son, Seyi had with Kanu's family to free the IPOB leader.

OYC in a statement by its National President,  Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, also called on Seyi to prevail on his father to keep his words.

Recall that Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, recently disclosed that the family had an agreement with Seyi before the 2023 polls to prevail on IPOB not to boycott the election, with a promise that his father, if elected President, would release Kanu.

According to Kanu's brother, Tinubu was aware of the pact and had authorized his son to get the deal.

OYC, therefore, urged the President to honour his words, arguing Kanu's release will  bring  enduring peace to the South-East. 

The statement read in part:“We find it curious that any Igbo man, let alone a sitting governor will throw spanners into the pressing demand for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. 

“Governor Soludo has for long demonstrated lack of capacity to curb insecurity in Anambra State, and finds easy blame on anyone else except himself. 

“This is why he found it so convenient to play down the role Nnamdi Kanu’s release will play towards stabilizing the South-East.” 

It further read: “We know that Mr President is a man of honour; he should not allow the likes of Soludo to mislead him.

“He should do Ndigbo a great favour by ordering the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. This will no doubt de-escalate tension in the South-East region".

Recall that Kanu' has remained in a solitary confinement at the Abuja headquarters of the Department of State Services, DSS, since June 2021 following his abduction and extraordinary rendition from Kenya.
