Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun on Wednesday, called on the three tiers of government, as well as well-meaning Nigerians to always work towards providing better welfare packages for families left behind by members of the nation's armed forces that fought to keep the country united.
Abiodun made the call, while speaking in an interview with newsmen shortly after laying the wreath at the year 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the Arcade ground of the Governor's Office Complex, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
Abiodun stated that the only way through to immortalise the legacies of the fallen heroes is to adequately take care of their families, so that their labours would not be in vain.
"Today, we came together in Ogun State to commemorate the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, a solemn occasion to honour our gallant servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation’s peace and sovereignty".
"The wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph symbolized our deep respect and gratitude for their courage. We also remembered the families of our fallen heroes—widows, widowers, and children—reaffirming our commitment to their welfare".
"We, not only remember them for paying the supreme price, but we also remember those that they left behind, their widows and widowers. We must not remember them in just one day, but we must take time out to remember them in our own little way everyday of the year. We should show them love".
"We should try and identify them and what they need most is just for us to show that we care about them. These are the people who have gone far beyond to do things that many of us will not ever want to do and we must also do everything to make sure that Nigeria remains an indivisible entity".
"That is another way we can show them love and appreciation. That all that fight that has made them sacrifice their lives must not be in vain".
"The Nigerian Armed Forces remain a pillar of security and unity, and we are committed to supporting them in their mission to protect our communities".
"As we honour their sacrifices, we renew our pledge to build a secure and prosperous Ogun State. May the souls of our fallen heroes rest in peace, and may their bravery continue to inspire us".
