President Bola Tinubu has blamed the organisers of palliative distribution that led to the stampedes which claimed several lives for not putting in place adequate measures to ensure that it was orderly.
The President who said there was an error on the side of the organisers, noted that in the past 25 years he has been involved in arms giving including giving out food stuffs and commodities in his Lagos country home.
Fielding questions during his first Presidential Media Chat in Lagos, the President said despite the unfortunate situation, things are improving.
He said, "t is a very serious and mixed feeling for all of us to lose loved ones, children particularly Oyo State, Ibadan, then followed by various other reports. But are we looking at it from organisers point of view or are you looking at it from the goodwill, gesture of the people trying to give out whatever they have.
"It's very sad that people are not well organizers, we just have to be disciplined in our society. Condolences to those who lost their family members. It is good to give, I have been giving out food stuffs, commodities including envelopes in Bourdillion in the last 25 years. I have never experienced this kind of incident because we were organised, disciplined.
"If you know you don't have enough to give, don't attempt to even give or publicize it... Every society even in America, they have food banks, they have hungry people. In Britain they have food banks, they have warehouses, they are organised. They take ... to be in line and take turns to collect. It is a reflection in our bus stops where we don't even want to be on queue before we rush into the vehicle.
"It is very sad but we will continue to learn from our mistakes. To me I perceive this as a very grave error on the part of the organisers but things are improving, it doesn't kill our happiness for the season. We should just get home with it."
