The opposition party in Osun State, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has described the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration as 'wasteful', saying the governor's celebrated projects does not commensurate federal allocation accrued to the State.
The APC spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, while speaking with newsmen on the Adeleke's administration second year anniversary in Osogbo on Thursday, said the Governor cannot justify the humongous N385 billion it received from federal allocation from January 2023 to September 2024 with project inaugurated during the second year anniversary.
His words, "Specifically, the state government received from January 2023 to September 2024 a sum of N385 billion from federal allocation, grants, IGR, etc. This include N4.3 billion UBEC and N1.3 billion TETFUND grants received from the federal government in 2023 to uplift infrastructure in our primary and tertiary institutions. All these FG grants do not form part of the federation allocation which has doubled since 2023 when subsidies on fuel and forex were removed by the federal government.
"By all estimates, Osun has been lucky with revenue, particularly with the federal revenue which has recorded 100% rise in the last 12 months. The federal allocation in 2022 before the inauguration of the current government was N73 billion ( before debt deductions). Meanwhile, as of end of third quarter of 2024 ( September), the state had already received N153 billion federal allocation, N50 billion above the N99 billion projected for the whole year. In spite of this financial windfall, Governor Adeleke has refused to fund the key sectors of the economy, safe for the allocation to his office which has recorded 170% performance thus far".
However, a coalition of civil society in Nigeria disclosed that its assessment of the governor's performance within the two years has been credible with excellent record of service delivery.
The coalition's spokesperson, Comrade Declan Ihekaire disclosed that findings across the state revealed that the governor is delivering on his electioneering promises and his performance is above average.
His words, "We have been in Osun State about a week ago and we have taken a tour of major towns including the capital city. We had taken a tour of major towns like Ife, Ede, Ilesa, Osogbo and Ifon Osun among others. We had an unguarded tour of the various projects of the current government. We also had exclusive interactions with residence in some Local Governments, who briefed us of the good governance they are experiencing under Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration in infrastructural, human development, and people friendly administration that listens to the opinions and critiques of the residence/citizens which we believe would have propelled the Governor to have achieved the length of success within 2 years.
"It's on record that during the last administration in Osun State we conducted a similar exercise, which to us as unbiased umpires could say boldly that the current administration under Gov. Ademola Adeleke has done so much so far that he deserves our commendation".
