Ogun LG Polls: Group protests imposition of Councillorship candidate

.....calls for Governor Abiodun's intervention

By Peter Adedoyin

Ahead of the November 16, 2024 Local Government Council election in Ogun State, some All Progressives Congress members from Alagbagba ward in Odeda Local Government area of Ogun State have kicked against the nomination of one Hon. Segun Kuyoro as Party Councillorship candidate as against the choice of Alhaja Kelani Opeyemi Rofiat who emerged as candidate during the Party primary held on Saturday.

It was gathered that the delegates and some Party leaders have in the early morning of Saturday September 21, elected Opeyemi as the APC councillorship candidate for Alagbagba ward in Odeda Local Government through affirmation and her  name ready for submission to the Party before it was changed to another aspirant, Hon. Segun Kuyoro.

The Protesters who shouted 'Opeyemi la fe', (It's Opeyemi we want) Party Loyalty Must Be Rewarded, and many words called on the Party leadership in the State to intervene.

"We can authoritatively confirm that there is a deliberate plot to subvert the will of the people to serve the interests of some tendencies within and outside Alagbagba ward to “humiliate Alhaja Kelani Opeyemi Rofiat and bring the party to disrepute”.

The Protesters insisted that “The so-called 'list from above'  is a far cry from the wish of the  state APC leadership of the party that all critical stakeholders of the party in each zone of the WARD be carried along.

“There was an affirmation at the Ward level, and Alhaja Kelani Opeyemi Rofiat was unanimously chosen by all the leaders of the party and members, it's now a surprise that somebody who has not been faithful and loyal to the Party, and who do not even shown up during the affirmation exercise is now chosen above the interest of the generality of the people.

"We were surprised that the wishes of the  people were suppressed by some unknown interests, whereas, Alhaja Kelani Opeyemi Rofiat who has been consistent with the Party, and who has contested the Party Primaries  four times, but was persuaded by the leaders to step down, is again being maltreated this way".

They passionately urge the leadership of the Party in the State to look into the issue and correct  the abnomality in the spirit of fairness and justice.
