The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of Nelson Solomon, an Abuja resident, for duping two Americans of $200.
Solomon was sentenced to a one-year imprisonment or a fine of N50,000 by Justice I. Nwosu of the FCT High Court, Maitama, Abuja.
The convict pleaded guilty to a two-count charge bordering on impersonation, cheating, and obtaining by false pretense.
According to the EFCC, Solomon posed as American engineers, John Scott and William Fernando, to defraud his victims, Webbi J.W. Mary and Miguela Okayama, of $100 each.
The offence contravenes Section 321 of the Penal Code Act Laws of the Federation 2004 and is punishable under Section 324 of the same Act.
In addition to the sentence, Solomon forfeited his iPhone to the federal government.
The EFCC's Abuja Zonal Directorate prosecuted the case, with prosecution counsel G.I. Ushie praying the court to convict and sentence Solomon accordingly.
