Traditional religion worshipers in Osun State have reiterated their resolve to continue to fight errant Yoruba traditional rulers desecrating traditions.
The adherent under the aegis of Traditional Religion Worshipers Association of Osun State, TRAWSO, at the 2024 Isese Day, stressed the need for Yoruba monarchs to return to tradition for the progress of the entire race.
Speaking at the event held at the Freedom Park in Osogbo, TRAWSO, President, Dr Oluseyi Atanda, said one of the group's responsibility is to ensure that traditional rulers, who are custodian of culture and tradition continue to uphold their oath of office.
His words, "The theme of Isese 2024 is the same as 2023 because we are driven by a strong will that if we as traditionalists (ONISESE) do not take the battle to errant Obas, no other person will. The primary custodian of our culture, tradition and religion is our Obas.
"This is a mission that the ancestors has divinely set us out for. We have engaged social media sensitization and various programmes to sensitize all about the roles of Obas and the dangers associated with the disgraceful activities of some misfits in our palaces.
"Unfortunately, the consequences would be borne by his household, lineage, town and indirectly, the nation as a whole. Nations who have held their culture, tradition and religion uppermost despite western education have left us behind, now we are at a breaking point where the future is bleak.
"Our royal fathers must come back home and be responsible to the duties and obligations of being a king and not just the glamour of the exalted stool. We shall explore all legal and legislative means to achieve this and ensure that the process of Oba selection and role of Obas goes back to almost as close to what it used to be for the betterment of all".
Also, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi who was represented by Oba Adekunle Adebowale, Agboluaje of Agbaje-Ife, stressed the need for traditional religion practitioners to research more into tradition with a view to bringing to focus its uniqueness.
"I implore you to help us highlight and research our tradition and what made it unique the way it was before. All those making derogatory remarks about Isese won't say such if they see that Isese is dignified. Let us cherish our tradition better.
"The Chinese and Indians haven't neglected their tradition till today. They conduct different research on it day by day. Please help us form a committee on our tradition and culture. Our culture is sweet", he said.
