Police intercept ammunition shipment, arrest three gunrunners, recover 740 rounds





The Katsina State Police Command has arrested three suspected notorious gunrunners and recovered a significant cache of live ammunition.

The suspects were arrested on August 29, 2024, in Dutsinma town, Dutsinma Local Government Area, Kataina State while attempting to deliver 740 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition to suspected armed bandits in the Yauni forest, Ummadau village, Safana Local Government Area.

Spokesperson of the Kataina Command, ASP Sadiq Abubakar disclosed this while parading the suspects at the Command's headquarter on Friday. He identified the arrested suspects as Ahmed Mohammed Kabir (25), Mannir Musa (25), and Aliyu Iliya (25). 

ASP Sadiq disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that the ammunition was sourced from Nasarawa State and was intended for a suspected armed bandits kingpin, Harisu, who is currently at large.

The suspects confessed to their involvement and implicated Harisu as the mastermind behind the operation. 

According to ASP Sadiq, the command is tirelessly working to apprehend Harisu and other suspects connected to the gunrunning activity.

In another operation, the Kataina  Police Command arrested three suspects, Abubakar Ibrahim (35), Abdullahi Nafi'u (35), and Adam Musa (36), in connection with an armed robbery incident in Baure Local Government Area.

According to ASP Sadiq, the suspects were apprehended on August 27, 2024, following a complaint about a robbery that occurred on August 3. The suspects allegedly attacked the residence of Ukashatu Isah, robbing him of his mobile phones and transferring a total of six million naira from his bank account.

ASP Sadiq disclosed that the suspects confessed to the crime, and the police are preparing to charge them to court upon completion of their investigations.
