Gunmen kill Lagos monarch's son

The eldest son of the traditional ruler of Ajiran community, Agungi area of Lekki, Lagos State, Demola Akinloye, was on Monday shot dead by a four-man armed gang on Chevron Drive road, Lekki.

The deceased, aged 50, was driving in his black Toyota Corolla car when the assailants, said to be in a white mini bus, intercepted him near the Bourdillon Court Estate gate.

Eye witnesses said they fired several shots at him at close range and stabbed him severally, abandoning him in a pool of his blood.

Other road users hurriedly zoomed off in fear. Policemen who arrived later cordoned off the area.

Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hudenyin, confirmed the incident.

He said: "Today,(yesterday) August 26, 2024, at about 12:30 pm, a distress call was received at the station that a man later identified as Demola Akinloye was attacked along Chevron Drive, Lekki.

The scene has been visited; one expended cartridge was recovered, and the corpse has been moved to a morgue in Ajah for preservation and autopsy.
