..... as VC charges them to be problem solvers

Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo in Ikenne local government area of Ogun State on Tuesday matriculated 3,223 new students for the 2023/2024 academic session, with a call on them to be
problem solvers.
Speaking at the matriculation ceremony, the institution's President/Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ademola Tayo, urged the matriculants to be fully committed to their studies, adding that they should set their sights on excellence and work tirelessly to achieve it.
Prof. Ademola said, "at Babcock University, we are dedicated to providing a topnotch education that prepares our students for success in their chosen fields. We seek to provide a learning environment that encourages intellectual growth, creativity, innovation, and critical thinking while also nurturing personal development and ethical responsibility".
"Our faculty comprises accomplished scholars and practitioners who share a passion for teaching and research, and we take pride in offering a rich and diverse academic experience that combines theory and practical learning".
"I encourage you to take full advantage of the opportunities available to you during your time here. Immerse yourself in your studies, engage in meaningful research, join student organizations, participate in extracurricular activities, and most importantly, make lasting connections with your peers and faculty members".
The Vice Chancellor assured the new students that the institution will uphold, protect and ensure their peaceful stay in university".
"As fresh students, it is expected that you will abide by all rules and regulations of this institution and participate in all activities of the University. You must be fully committed to your studies and justify your selection out of thousands who wanted to come and study at this noble institution".
He added, "Babcock University is poised to produce great minds and legends in various fields of expertise. Our graduates who are out their pulling their weights and rubbing shoulders as key players with notable other key actors on the political, social and economic scenes came here, discovered their potentials, honed their skills and fulfilled their dreams".
"Like them, there is greatness that lies within each of you. If you are ready we are here to help you to unlock the greatness in you and unleash you to the world to make the world a better place than you met it".
"I urge all of you who are matriculating today to find your purpose. Set your sights on excellence from now and work tirelessly to achieve it. Be deliberate about your personal growth. Make conscious efforts to apply yourself to learning; not just to pass your examinations, which are important, but to attain skills that will help you in the future. These are the attributes that distinguish a well-rounded individual".
"In addition, I charge you to set your own standards. Don’t live by another’s standards- standards set by some unknown persons on social media. Work to attain goals that you have set for yourself- goals that would outlive you in value. Who you were yesterday should serve as a yardstick to measure your own growth and progress. Not everyone has his or her entire plan all laid out yet. So, take things one step, one day at a time, being accountable to yourself and to God alone".
"It is good to learn, and learn what is learnable and valuable. Enjoy learning. Our campus life enables you to learn not only knowledge but also attitudes. Our campus enables you to share viewpoints and learn different norms and tastes. Take time to ask yourself: How will I live my life? What kind of person should I be? The values you set for yourself and the intellectual, emotional, and cultural assets that you accumulate should support you throughout your lifetime".
"I ask you to be a good problem-solver. That is the purpose of research. Make new questions and find the answers to the questions yourself, then you can see a new horizon. I ask you to recognise your capabilities, not as the weapons of competition or conditions of victory for yourself, but as the social capitals that you can share with your community. The more you utilise and share, the bigger the social capitals become.
"As an institution that is devoted to building leadership through Christian education, transforming lives and impacting society for positive change, we are concerned about not only the economic polarisation, but also the ideological and political divisions that are becoming more severe in our society".
"So, I request you to have a broad view of the world and flexible thoughts to understand others better and take initiative in the unification of the society and making it better and livable for all".
"We are Nigerians, we are Africans, and we are citizens of the world. This campus welcomes everyone here. We therefore take all issues of equality and diversity very seriously. In fact, we believe much in inclusivity.
BU has an iron-cast commitment to being a diverse college in which everyone is treated equally and with respect. We have zero tolerance for discrimination. That informs our core value of team spirit. The diverse make-up of our student body means that differences are celebrated and cultures are shared.
"You must be part of the catalyst for positive change. I have no doubt that you have an extraordinary ability and indeed an obligation to direct your efforts towards ensuring the world becomes a better place. You have the capacity for immense achievement, not the least of which is to support positive change in society. But being at the forefront of social change demands the humility to listen to the societies you serve, and truly understand their needs. It demands that you remain open to collaborating, to sharing knowledge and to learning from others".
