A Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, has sentenced one Nwoke Ifeanyi to two years imprisonment over illegal possession of 600 grammes of tramadol.
The suspect was docked before Justice Mashkur Salisu on a count charge on May 15, 2024.
According to National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA's prosecutor, Olufemi Ijimakin, the suspect was arrested along Gbongan-Ibadan expressway with 1,010 capsules weighing 600 grams of tramadol, contrary to the provision of section 19 of the NDLEA Act, 2004.
Ifeanyi, having listened to charge against him, pleaded guilty before the court.
In his judgement, Justice Salisu held that the confessional statement of the convict, his admittance of guilt in the court and the exhibit the prosecution tendered are enough ground to convict him.
The defendant's counsel, Alfred Adegoke in his allocution, urged the court to be lenient with the convict, having declared that he will turn a new person.
Justice Salisu held that the section under which the convict was charged provided for 15 years jail term.
However, Ifeanyi, based on his counsel's plea was sentenced to two years jail term starting from April 14, 2024 when he was arrested.
