Rotary International has sensitized the male folks, especially 40 years of age and above on the importance to undergo the compulsory Prostate Screening Assessment (PSA).
The Kano State Coordinator, Rotary for Family Health Days, Rotarian Kazeem Gbolahan Afolayan made the call at the official flag-off of its free medical outreach for 556 Kano residents.
Afolayan, who doubles as the District 9125 Secretary, said the Prostate Screening Assessment, PSA is the process of detecting undiagnosed prostate cancer in men without signs or symptoms.
He listed the Prostate Screening Assessment, PSA among others like free hepatitis screening, glucose level, blood level, HIV and malaria tests as some of the interventions offered during the outreach.
According to him, "These are the predominant health issues affecting people, hence the essence of the gesture (outreach).
"However, cases beyond their capacity would be referred to the nearest hospital," he said.
The outreach took place concurrently at Kawaji, Tokawara and Tarauni Primary Health Centres in Kano.
At Kawaji, the free service was rendered to 162 people, while in Tarauni, 305, and at Tokarawa Primary Health Centre, 89 individuals benefited from the gesture.
The beneficiaries also departed with items such as treated mosquito nets, sanitary pads, glucose, and medicines, amongst others.
As an activity of Rotary Family Health Week, the outreach had the Federal Ministry of Health, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, End Polio Now and Hepatitis World Eradication Project as partners.
Hauwa Umar and Rosemary Jacob who were among the beneficiaries at Kawaji Health Centre, commended Rotary International, stressing that it was beneficial, especially for those on antenatal.
