Former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has empowered 150 Owu indigenes through the Owu Empowerment Foundation (OEF).
The former governor however, received royal blessings from the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola, for the empowerment which was described as strategic and helpful to the communities in the kingdom.
The empowerment was put together by the foundation as a way of alleviating poverty in the Owu communities and the State at large.
Amosun, has through the empowerment extended support to communities, health centers, and over 150 indigenes of Owu Kingdom.
The Owu Empowerment Foundation, is known to uplifting the people of Owu Kingdom, distributed a range of essential items including 50 laptops, 20 deep freezers, 20 grinding machines, generators, hair dryers, and sewing machines at the Owu Palace in Abeokuta.
Representing Senator Ibikunle Amosun at the event, his Media Aide, Alhaji Bola Adeyemi called on the beneficiaries to utilize the resources judiciously, emphasizing the opportunity for self-improvement and community development.
He maintained that it is with great honor that Amosun empowered his people, adding that those who made the beneficiaries list should see it as an opportunity to be better themselves.
Addressing the gathering, Oba Matemilola, described the empowerment initiative as a means to enhance livelihoods and encourage reciprocal community support.
He cautioned against the misuse or sale of the provided items, warning of consequences for those found in violation.
He said, “OEF is empowerment and not freebies, please make use of it judiciously, you can also be a donor through the gain from this empowerment.
“If you use it well it will encourage people to come and donate as well. But if you didn’t use it well, it might discourage other people who are willing to empower people through the foundation and it will affect others who were supposed to benefit in the future”.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Banji Oyegbami, expressed gratitude to Senator Amosun for his exemplary gesture, urging other influential individuals within Owu to follow suit and contribute to the empowerment efforts.
He said “Today’s empowerment is being single-handedly sponsored by Senator Ibikunle Amosun, we thank you from the depth of our hearts for this kind gesture.
“This act of SIA is exemplary and worthy of emulation by all. It’s a challenge to highly-placed and blessed Owu sons and daughters to identify /partner with OEF to empower our people”.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Oladele Deborah, shared her appreciation for the deep freezer provided to Apomu Health Center, highlighting its critical role in preserving vital medical supplies, thereby alleviating longstanding challenges faced by the healthcare facility.
Among the health centres benefiting from this initiative are Health Center Igosun, Health Center Amororo, Health Center Kurere, and others, signifying a broad-reaching impact across the community.
Amosun’s commitment to empowering the Owu Kingdom serves as a beacon of hope, inspiring others to join in the noble cause of community upliftment and empowerment.
