Indications have emerged that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume and the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia have resolved to put aside their differences and work together as a team.
Recall that supporters and loyalists of the two leaders have been neck deep in crisis over who leads and controls the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue state leading to the factionalisation of the party.
To resolve the dispute, the Chairman of the Benue State Traditional Council and Tor Tiv, HRM, Prof. James Ayatse, Monday, summoned a closed-door meeting with both leaders at the Tor Tiv Palace in Gboko, to have the matter resolved.
Addressing the media at the end of the meeting which lasted several hours, the Paramount ruler of the Tiv tribe declared that both leaders had agreed to bury their differences.
Giving an insight into what transpired at the meeting, the Tor Tiv said, "today being Easter Monday, I called the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth and the Secretary to the Government of the Federal, SGF, Senator George Akume to discuss with them because of some of the reports that we have received about conflicts between them including political differences and we have spoken with them.
"They have told us and discussed the issues with us and we have all discussed and agreed together.
"They agreed to bury their differences and work together as a team for the good of the people. So all the pasts differences have been put aside; you have a fresh start, working together in unity in cooperation and agreement for the progress and development of Benue State.
"They made a commitment before us and they have agreed by symbolically shaking and embracing one another agreeing that they will work together as a team.
"They will bury their differences and work together. We are happy with the resolutions they took themselves and we believe they have shown commitment to action this decision they have taken.
"And importantly we are their fathers in the land our blessings have a lot of importance in their activities. So to make such commitment in the presence of the traditional rulers in the land is very weighty. And we do believe that they will adhere to the resolutions that we reached today."
Meanwhile, both Senator Akume and Governor Alia declined comments at the end of the meeting
