Stampede: My suspension null and void - SUG President

The President of the Students Union Government, Nasarawa State University Keffi, Buhari Ari has described his suspension by the Senate of the Union as null and void.

Ari, in a statement, made available to newsmen said the suspension did to follow laid down procedures and due process  in the constitution, declaring the action of the Senate as  a 'kangaroo suspension'.

"I was not aware of any emergency sitting held that resulted in my  suspension. No room was given to me to clear myself of any wrong doing",  Ari declared.

"I'm using this statement to ask the university community to disregard  the so-called suspension. I do hereby promise to prioritize the welfare of the university students.

"I'm not disturb by the purported  suspension because it was announced by few members of the senate as no quorum was formed  to legalize my suspension"

It would be recalled that on  Monday, the Senate of the SUG in the institution had announced an indefinite suspension of the troubled president for what it termed failure to provide proper modalities for the distribution of palliatives given by the State Government to students aimed at cushioning the economic hardship in the country.

Recalled also  that the Nasarawa State University Keffi was on Friday enmeshed in a deadly stampede which led to the death of  some  students.

SUG Senate also cited failure to appear before a committee of investigation set up by the Senate over some allegations levelled against him, failure to call and preside over EXCO meeting as directed by the Senate, inaccessibility and the failure to obtain the signatory of the union account.

The Senate directed him to hand over the affairs of the union and documents in his possession to his Vice, Rasheedah Aroke, pending the outcome of ongoing investigation by a committee.
