President Tinubu appoints Temitope Ilori as NACA DG







President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Temitope Ilori as Director General of the National AIDS Control Agency, NACA, for an initial term of four years commencing February 22, 2024. 

She takes over from Dr Gambo Aliyu who was appointed in June 2019 and is the first female Director-General of the Agency.

A statement from NACA announcing the development stated that before her appointment, Ilori was a lecturer in the Department of Community Medicine, University of Nigeria, Ibadan, and a consultant family physician in the Department of Family Medicine, University Teaching Hospital, Ibadan in Nigeria.

She received her MBBS in Internal Medicine from the University of Ibadan and completed her residency at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria.

In April 2012, she was named the Best Postgraduate Researcher in the Department of Family Medicine of the West African College of Physicians and received the A.O. Senbanjo Prize.

She is also a research associate at the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN). The new CEO holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) and Master of Science (MSc.) in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

She is a PhD candidate in the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, funded by the African Alliance for Advanced Research Training.

Her research interests include primary care, immunization, public health nutrition, non-communicable diseases, and women's and children's health. She is a prolific researcher and co-author of more than 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals.

She has been involved in policy formulation and strategic development, serving as the Osun State Commissioner for Health from 2011 to 2014, and Osun State Agency on Control of HIV/AIDS (O-SACA, as well as Chairperson of the Technical Working Group of Osun State on Immunisation.
