Former Commissioner for Transport, Abia State, Chief Mrs Nnenna Obewu Onwuka, has urged women not to leave all family expenses for their husbands, arguing that women can actually assist in paying school fees of their children to complement the efforts of their husbands.
The former Commissioner who made the assertion in her remark at the 2024 International Women's Day & award ceremony of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike Women Association ( MOUAUWA), said women were not meant to be parasites, but help mates to their husbands.
She regretted that many men die untimely as a result of too much pressure from the family, and charged women to support in the upkeep of their families.
"Stop depending on the man alone. Rat did not eat your money. You can help pay the children's school fees."
The Abia State Chairman of the Young Peoples Party, YPP, further urged women to be resilient, resources and to use their womanhood positively to affect society.
"Be bold, courageous and audacious, and plan your life, otherwise men will take undue advantage of you if you depend on their aids".
