The Coalition of Ogun State Youth Forums (COSYF) has given President Bola Tinubu a 30-day deadline, to re-open all international borders, as part of measures to stimulate economic growth through increased trade and investment.
The group, also said the President should implement policies that will alleviate the pains of Nigerians, orchestrated by hardship.
The coalition, while making the call at a press conference, in Abeokuta, the state capital on Wednesday, said that government must include incorporation of non-state actors into the palliative committee to ensure a broader representation of the affected populace.
Spokesperson of COSYF, Femi Owoẹyẹ, who spoke on behalf of the coalition appealed to President Tinubu to launch a comprehensive health insurance initiative, to include provision of one year free coverage for all Nigeria to alleviate healthcare burdens.
The coalition also wants President Tinubu to institute a well-managed food bank system to ensure the equitable distribution of food resources, especially to vulnerable populations.
Owoeye said, “It's imperative that we call your attention to the obvious hardship and agony of Nigerians under your watch. It is essential that crucial decisions are made and implemented urgently to alleviate the pains of Nigerians.
“As the President and father of the nation, you must rise up to your responsibilities and do more for Nigerians.
“Implement subsidies for public transportation and increase the availability of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to alleviate transportation costs. Introduce financial support programs and grants for Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) to stimulate economic growth and job creation”, Owoeye added.
The coalition while commending Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to the welfare of the people in the state, insisted that the governor must wake up to the plight of the residents who are grappling with the unfavorable economic realities.
The coalition said, "we commend your leadership and commitment to the welfare of Ogun State. Your efforts in prioritizing the development of our state have not gone unnoticed, and we recognize the strides made under your administration. However, it is essential to call your attention to the plight of the indigent Ogun State residents and citizens alike who are grappling with the unfavorable economic realities".
"We received the news of your palliative (intervention) measures with gladness and gratitude, but we must point out that there is no clear cut mechanism to capture the youth constituency in the various state initiatives, interventions and measures. The average, self employed and out of school youth is not directly captured in the initiative. This is a huge lacuna that must be corrected immediately to avoid future complications. This can be effected by the creation of a truly youthful committee to see to this".
