Police arrest of 5 suspects over planned disruption of NANS convention






The FCT Police Command on Wednesday said it arrested five suspects in connection with the attempted infiltration of the 30th November, 2023 NANS (National Association of Nigerian Students) Convention in Abuja, to disrupt the process. 

The Police said suspects were promptly intercepted by security operatives, some of whom were handed over to the Police by the Department of State Services noting the various arms, ammunition and dangerous weapons were recovered from the suspects.

The Police statement was titled, "CP FCT Warns Against Criminal, Infiltration of Lawful Assembly"

It reads,  "The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, CP Haruna Garba has warned against any form of disturbance of public peace, unlawful assembly, and criminal infiltration of lawful assembly within the FCT. 

"The CP gave this warning on Wednesday, 6th December, 2023, while confirming the arrest of 5 suspects in connection with the attempted  infiltration of the 30th November, 2023 NANS convention to disrupt the process. 

"The suspects were promptly intercepted by security operatives, some of whom were handed over to the Police by the Department of State Services.

"The suspects are Adeniran Femi, Ishaya Christopher, Obigi Emeka, Fatokun Ayodele and Abdullahi Saliu .



"Exhibits recovered from them include a pump action gun, one locally made double barrell shotgun, two locally made pistol, one baretta pistol, fifteen (15) live ammunition, cartridges, an axe and twelve (12) cutlasses.

"Others are mobile phones, bag containing uniforms of security agencies and a Mazda car with Reg No. RBC909DP which contains some of the exhibits. 

"Investigation is being intensified while efforts are ongoing to arrest other suspects still at large. 

"Suspects would be charged to court on conclusion of investigations. 

"Meanwhile, the CP has assured residents of the unflinching commitment of the command to ensuring and safeguarding public order, safety and security in the FCT.
