Reserve 35% recruitment slots for female applicants - Women Affairs Ministry appeals to Police

The Ministry of Women Affairs has partnered with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to allocate 35 percent of recruitment slots for female applicants in the country.

In a statement, Uju Kennedy, Minister of Women Affairs, said the partnership would give female applicants the opportunity to be enlisted through the ongoing police recruitment of first school leaving certificate holders.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) had earlier opened its application portal for interested Nigerians to commence registration from October 15 to November 26.

Kennedy asked female applicants to take advantage of the partnership with the police force.

She added that the ministry would ensure the 35 percent recruitment slot is achieved.

“In fulfillment of the National Gender Policy which formulated a 35% affirmative action, the managements of the Nigeria Police and federal ministry of women affairs have entered a partnership that will ensure that 35 percent of female applicants are integrated into the ongoing nationwide recruitment of the Nigeria Police for first school leaving certificate holders,” the statement reads.

“Please my girls, the Nigeria police is recruiting first school leaving certificate holder, if you are interested, I urge you to apply as the Women Affairs will also encourage you to go back to school while on the job through scholarships and access to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Students’ Loan scheme.

“The present recruitment structure in the country has not favored women combined with gendered economic and household inequalities which are seen to be the main barriers to women’s contribution of their quota to national growth.”

The minister commended Kayode Egbetokun, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), for giving women the chance to participate in the ongoing recruitment exercise like their male counterparts.
