The people of Ilobu, headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area of Osun State have pleaded with the State Governor, Ademola Adeleke to avert imminent disaster in the town as students of public schools crawl through debris to access schools.
The bridge linking adjoining communities to Ilobu Grammar School in the town had caved-in making difficult for students and teachers to access the school except they walk through the river and debris.
Also Laaro bridge connecting Ilobu central town to other parts has also been destroyed by erosion cutting residents off the main part of the communities.
Speaking with newsmen ahead of this year's Ilobu Day celebration in Ilobu on Monday, President, Ilobu-Asake Development Union, Pastor Olufemi Salako, urged the Governor, as well as the office of ecological fund to come to the aid of the community.
His words, "We cried over a then collapsing, and now collapsed Laaro Bridge during our celebration last year. It is highly unfortunate that no action has been taken despite our efforts. As we speak, tens of thousands of our people have been cut off following the collapse of the bridge.
"Another challenge is that students of Ilobu Secondary Commercial Grammar School, Ansar-Ud-Deen Grammar School and AUD Primary School now crawl over debris and wade through flowing rivers daily to assess their school buildings as both the connecting bridges have now also collapsed. This makes learning not only difficult but ordinary commuting to school treacherous for these young students and their teachers.
"Also, we call on dear Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke to help rehabilitate and revitalize the Comprehensive Healthcare Centre, Konda. The clinic, which was once a one-stop shop for medical treatment, is in a state of total disrepair. The non-functionality of the facility has compounded the health challenge of our people. Over 1,500 households living around the clinic now covers kilometers to assess healthcare".
He added that the community will at this year's celebration empower selected Persons With Disabilities, PWDs, in the town to establish their own businesses with a view to make them family bread winners.
