Tension on Thursday night, heightened at Twon Brass jetty in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa when officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were offloading the election materials.
It was learned that this followed a misunderstanding between supporters of he All Progressives Congress (APC) and the the People's Democratic Party (PDP) over where the elections materials should be kept ahead of the Saturday governorship poll.
It was alleged that the Brass Local Government Area PDP Chairman, identified as Bara Daniel was injured in the head by supporters of the APC, led by a former council chairman, Victor Isaiah.
But Isaiah denied any involvement in the assault.
He said: “I was there actually to monitor the process of the materials offloading but the PDP chairman kept making derogatory statements which unsettled some people but I was able to calm the situation."
However, normalcy was restored by some military personnel who intervened.
Meantime, the Chairman of Brass Local Government Area, Mr. Alabo Hanson Karika has strongly condemned the attack on the PDP Chairman of Brass LGA.
He called on security agents to be on alert to avert further violence.
