One dead, seven injured as bus rammed into truck in Ogun






One person was on Tuesday confirmed dead, while seven others were reportedly injured when a Toyota Hiace bus rammed into a moving truck from the rear, due to brake failure while on top speed.

The accident occurred in front of Christopher University along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway while the bus with the number plate GAS 937 XA was travelling to Taraba from Lagos.

The spokesperson of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the accident in a statement he made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, said there were eight occupants in the vehicle when the accident happened.

According to eyewitness, “the white Toyota Hiace bus driver lost control due to brake failure, coupled with excessive speed also hit a moving truck from the rear.

He said, "the crash which occurred  at about 1130hrs of Tuesday morning involving a vehicle  with registration number GAS937XA TOYOTA HIACE"

"A total of 10 persons were involved which comprised of 07  male adult and  3 female adult. 08 persons which involved 6 male adult and 2 female adult were  injured,  while 02  were recorded death from the crash. 01 male adult and 01 female adult".

"The incidence was a lone crash and the suspected cause  of the fatal crash was wrongful over taking on the part of the Toyota driver and then rammed into a station vehicle coupled with excessive speed".

He said the injured victims had been taken to FAMOBIS Hospital by operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps before the TRACE team arrival, while remains of the victim had been deposited at Fakoya morgue in Sagamu.

While TRACE commiserated with the family of the deceased, it warned motorists to avoid excessive speed and ensure their vehicles are well maintained, particularly the brake system, in view of its attendant consequences.
