Hunters rescue man after attempting suicide in Osun

A yet-to-be identified man was on Wednesday rescued by local hunters in Osogbo, Osun State, after attempting to kill himself.

The man, it was gathered, hanged himself on the Olaiya flyover around 1am on Wednesday, but was rescued by the local hunters who were said to be on patrol.

Investigation revealed that the man had already tied the rope to an iron bar on the bridge and threw himself over, but two hunters on patrol around the area quickly cut the rope off and he fell to the ground.

According to an eye witness, the man was later carried away by policemen who arrived the scene after the hunters had rescued him.

When contacted, Osun Commander, Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service, Nurein Ahmed said the two hunters were on normal patrol and coincidentally were at the scene at the right time to rescue the man.

"It is true that the two hunters were on patrol and on getting to the scene, they saw the man and eventually rescued him before inviting police to the scene, who eventually took him away", he said.

Meanwhile Osun Police Command spokesperson Yemisi Opalola said she was aware that an unstable man was moved to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo for treatment, but cannot confirm that he attempted suicide.

"Efforts are on to contact his family before he would be moved to a more special hospital for treatment but I cannot confirm that he attempted to commit suicide", she added.
