ICPC recovers N454 billion in four years






The Independent Corrupt Practises and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has disclosed that it has recovered the sum of N454billion in the last four years from corrupt persons in the country.

This was disclosed by the Commission's Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner in Osun State Office, Mr. Demola Bakare while presenting a paper during the 2023 African Union Anti-Corruption Day at the  Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun state.

According to him, the commission had between 2019 and 2023 made recoveries valued N454billion from corrupt persons across the country.

"This amount covers recoveries of funds restrained, tax intervention, cash recovered from domiciliary accounts, rent received from some properties forfeited to the government, budget tracking and cash in other accounts and so on.

"We have also within the time under review, investigated 4,737 cases, secured 90 convictions and tracked 3,422 project under the constituency and project tracking initiative", he said.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units, ACTU, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Prof. Adewale Adegbite urged ICPC to sanction Directors and Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies ( M.D.As) who refuses to support ACTU in their organisation.

Also, Osun INEC's Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke said integrity is an individual thing and admonished the participants to instill the culture of Ilintegrity their wards, saying, the older generation should serve as models to young generation.
