Gunmen kill Police Inspector, cart away AK-47

A Police Inspector, Jude Ukpaka was on Wednesday night shot dead and his Ak-47 with unspecified rounds of ammunition carted away by unknown gunmen in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was gathered that Ukpaka and two of his other colleagues of Dragon 19, attached to the Ughelli Area Command were at a check point near Evwreni axis of the East-West road.

The Police Dragon 19 Toyota Hilux van windshield riddled with bullets.

A trader who gave her name as Esther said that armed robbers attack travellers as they were returning from Bayelsa at the early morning at same area before the evening incident. 

It would be recalled that two months ago, two police officers, PC Ujeyah Matthew and Sergeant Ijebu attached to Ofuoma division were killed and their guns stolen at Ekredjebor community in Ughelli North which was denied by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Edafe Bright.

Efforts to contact the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe was not successful as his mobile line was busy and text messages sent as at the time of this report were not responded to.

But a Senior security source from Delta State Police Command, Asaba who confirmed the incident on anonymous condition, disclosed that the other officers escaped into the swamp as Ukpaka was shot on right side of his Chest and died on the spot.

"They ran into swamp until they were rescued by a team from Ughelli Area Command, while the remains of deceased officer has been deposited at the mortuary." He stated.

Speaking further the source who gave details of the attacked on the police disclosed that, "a Senior Police Officer made entry of the incidence and disclosed that One Ak-47 with bridge number, 08266 and unspecified live ammunition were stolen by the assailants."
