The Ogun State House of Assembly has approved Governor Dapo Abiodun’s request for approval to appoint 20 Special Advisers for the running of government, pending the appointment of Commissioners.
The approval was given at its executive session, presided over by the Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo.
The approval followed a motion moved by the Assembly Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff following the presentation of the governor's correspondence to the members, while Atinuke Bello seconded the motion, which was supported by all members.
In another development, the Assembly Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo on behalf of other lawmakers today made an appeal to members of the State Chapter of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria to shelve their strike, saying that the State government was already looking into their requests.
The Speaker, who counseled that after observing their warning strike, the PASAN members should take a queue from the Nigeria Labour Congress at the national level, which had shelved its planned strike to allow for negotiations in the spirit of collective bargaining.
According to him, "since government was already considering their requests, the workers should please reciprocate the gesture by calling off the strike".
