Ngige is garrulous - Osun College Provost

Nigeria's Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr Chris Ngige has been described as a garrulous public official over his boasting of salary increment for lecturers.

This was disclosed by the Provost, Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, Professor Jimoh Afolabi while speaking with newsmen on growing rot in the education sector, at the college campus.

He said the Minister's current pride over salary increment for workers in the country at the twilight of the present administration is not worth to be proud of by Ngige whose tenure as Labour Minister is full of unprecedented crisis for the labour unions in the country

"Look at what the outgoing Minister of Labour, Dr Ngige was saying at zero hour. He said they are increasing salary. Where is this salary. What happened to the demand for salary increment in the last eight years. ASUU fought and fought, ditto for other labour unions but nothing came out.

"Government, for me, should be blamed for the rot in the education sector and others. You employ somebody and you don't give him or her a living wage, that hinders productivity.

"A professor at the bar in the university is going home with less than N400,000 meaning that the love for the job would not be there. So that is one of the factors that contribute to low standard of education in the country", he said.
