LASU students to represent Nigeria at FISU world university games, China







Five students of Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo have qualified to represent Nigeria, at the Federation Internationale Du Sport Universitaire, FISU, World University Games to be held in China between July  28 and August 8.

The athletes that included  Aminat Oluwafunke Ilori - Badminton (Female) Business Administration/ Management Sciences; Simeon Abiodun Akinsola - Badminton (male) HKSHE/Education;  Oluwasegun Obasanjo Idowu - Badminton (male) HKSHE/Education: Oluwatosin Ihaza - Judo/male(81kg) History/ Education; and  Mujeeb Adewuyi - Athletic 110 metres Hurdles(men) Computer Science/Science, won some medals to qualify for FISU, world qualifying Games, held in May, from Monday 8 to Sunday 14 at the University of Benin,  UNIBEN, Edo state. 

Speaking of the feat, the Director, Sports and Recreation, LASU, Dr. Segun Olawunmi, in the company of the Deputy Director, Mr. Owoyemi Idowu and other technical officials, who led the team to the qualifying games noted that: " The qualifying games saw athletes from different Nigerian compete in various games. 

" We are happy these five athletes from LASU will be part of the Nigerian contingent to the FISU World University Games. " Olawunmi noted. 

Recall that the 32nd FISU University Games were originally billed for Yekaterinburg, Russia in 2021. However, the organisers withdrew the hosting right and gave it to the City of Chengdu, China, due to the Russia- Ukraine war.
