2 INEC officials missing, another hospitalized - Kano REC





The Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Abdu Zango on Monday said two of it officials were missing and one other hospitalized after sustaining injuries from an attack by hoodlums on the Collation centre in Takai LGA of the state.

Zango confirmed this while giving an update on result from the area and three others namely Kano Municipal, Dala and Gwale LGAs (not cleared) been awaited.

The REC said the collation centre was initially attacked amid collation of results and later reconvened, only to come under attack again and leaving the Collation Officer suffering from injuries from machete while the two others were missing.

He said the commission with support of the police immediately evacuated the personnel to save their lives.

According to him, "the place was attacked. The Collation Officer hospitalized and two other officers missing. Some of the party agents were also injured.

"Our number one priority is the safety of the INEC officials and adhoc staff. So we are lucky, we didn't record any casualty.

"The electoral officer and several others were able to retrieve some of the documents, some results, all BVAs and the rest.

"They are now trying to see how they can put it together here at the headquarters as they were evacuated, no collation in the place," the REC said.

However, as at the time of filing this report, results collated include that from Nassarawa and Fagge LGAs so far.

Meanwhile, results from LGAs such as Kano Municipal, Dala, Takai (under attack) and Gwale (not cleared) were still been awaited.
