The Abeokuta Unique Lions Club has shared the joy of Christmas with no fewer than 700 less privileged people in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The two-day programme, which took place at Enugada and Oke Ago Owu areas of Abeokuta metropolis, was tagged "Hunger Relief".
Speaking at the programme, the President, Abeokuta Unique Lions Club, Lion Temitope Olabimtan said the essence of the programme was to give the beneficiaries sense of inclusion during the Christmas period.
Olabimtan charged the beneficiaries not to see their present condition as an end to their lives, but that they should put their trust in God, whom he described as the ultimate peace of all human beings.
He admonished the beneficiaries to move closer to God and open their minds and hearts to him for them to have peace of mind and everlasting joy.
Olabimtan said, Lions Club promotes the ideas of sharing and caring for the less privileged and downtrodden in the society, saying that people should show love to their neighbours as a way of commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.
He said, "giving to the poor, especially during festivity, would help them participate in the celebrations and a way of attracting God’s favour and blessing to the giver".
"Christmas and New Year celebrations should encourage good will, better understanding and friendship between people and their neighbors".
He enjoined people to join Lions Club to enable them help in building good behavior and service to humanity for the greater gain of the public.
Speaking in an interview with Vanguard on the importance of joining Lions Club, Olabimtan said this will enable them help in building good behaviour and service to humanity for the greater gain of the public.
He assured that Lions Club will never be tired of putting smiles on the faces of the downtrodden and the underprivileged members of the society.
